Uses & Recipes For Kaffir Lime Essential Oil

Reed Diffuser
These are great for small rooms. Kaffir Lime has a strong spicy aroma, which blends well with Orange, Lemon, Lavender, Ylang Ylang, & Frankincence. Use a carrier oil like Sweet Almond oil, available cheaply at most supermarkets.

These essential oil reed diffusers release a very light, subtle scent and do not compare to the very strong, overpowering scent that’s released by the commercial reed diffusers which use artificially scented oils. You’ll need to flip the reeds once a week to refresh the scent. Once the reeds are completely saturated, you’ll need to replace them with new reeds. You will also need to replace your oil once it starts to lose its scent or if it starts to smell “off” – usually after a month or so.

  1. ¾ fill a glass container, preferably with a small neck, with your sweet Almond oil. You may have one lying around, or pick up one from a dollar shop.

  2. Add at least four tablespoons of Vodka (brings out the fragrance). You can also use denatured or rubbing Alcohol. Denatured works best, because of its higher alcohol content.

  3. Reeds we have supplied free. These are cotton fibre, & work exceptionally well.

  4. Add 50-70 drops Kaffir Lime oil, personal preference applies. You may wish to combine with some of our other suggested oils.

Oil Diffusers
These are the plug-in ones, ultrasonic with auto shut-off. Great for a larger room, & you only use water with a few drops of oil. To view

Fragrances: make your own!
Half an ounce Sweet Almond oil (14.7 ml)
30-35 drops of Kaffir lime oil, or create your own blend as shown below. 2 tbsp cheap Vodka as a preservative. It prolongs the fragrance & enhances the top notes. However, it is not necessary to add alcohol. See below.*

Start with your Sweet Almond carrier oil, or you can use fractionated Coconut oil. Then add those oils you wish to use, starting with base note.

You could make the Fragrance/perfume using only one essential oil, however, it’s lots of fun to make a blend from three or more scents: usually a top note, a middle note, and a base note.

Top notes are the fragrance that you first smell, and therefore are the first to evaporate. The essential oil of Kaffir Lime is a great top note oil.

For a middle note, Lavender is a good option. The middle note, considered the heart of the fragrance, shows up once the top note has evaporated, and lasts longer than the top note. The middle note is more mellow and well-rounded.

Patchouli or Ylang Ylang as a base note is ideal. Base notes are the scents that linger the longest.

Whether they are top, middle or base notes, there are no rules. Have fun and experiment with them. Dab the fragrance on your pulse points (behind the ear, knee and inside of wrist). See how it wears after a time.

*Add alcohol for a preservative. This step isn’t necessary, but if you do, use Vodka because it is flavorless, but can be helpful if you want your scent to last longer. It also enhances the top note. If you are using 60 or so drops of essential oil, you can use between two to four ounces of alcohol. You can, instead, use Isopropyl alcohol.

Notes of those Oils supplied:

Top notes: Bergamot, Eucalypus, Lemon, Sweet Orange, Peppermint, Tea Tree, Lemongrass, Kaffir Lime, Holy Basil
Middle notes: Lavender, Thyme, Ginger, & Coriander
Base notes: Cedarwood, Frankincence, Patchouli, Sandalwood, Ylang Ylang

Rollerball perfumes: As per recipes above, these provide a convenient application method. Handy purse size. We have supplied two free bottles with Ultimate Essential Oil Package. Check out our range of 5ml roller bottles for additional purchases.

To make a spray perfume: Add 20% essential oils to 80% alcohol base. Shake mixture vigorously to dissolve the fragrance of the essential oil into the alcohol base. Pour the alcohol base into the perfume atomizer bottle, and use as a perfume spray.

Nothing compares to a soak in the bath after a challenging day.
Take a handful of Sea salt, add to it 7-10 drops of your favorite oil, & then add to bath. Sea salt, with its cleansing, mineral-rich properties, makes a luxurious, healthy experience. You can also use Bicarbonate of Soda, or Epsom salts, in the same way. Both are great for aching, tired limbs.

In hot tea: 1 or 2 drops is all you need. You can also add honey, & even a drop of either Peppermint or Sweet Orange oil. Many use this in alcoholic drinks, as it adds a very refreshing aftertaste: like mint, but different.

Recommended for oily skin, it tones, nourishes, rejuvenates and restores skin elasticity. Has anti-inflammatory properties. Strengthens hair and nails. Effective for cellulite. Do not apply pure essential oil directly to your skin.

For a general body cream/moisturizer, make a 2% dilution using the by-the-drop method: add 12 drops of Kaffir lime to each fl. ounce (30 ml) of your carrier oil: Sweet Almond, Sunflower, or fractionated Coconut.

Also makes a good general body lotion/ moisturiser.

The oil has amazing restorative properties. In fact, here are just a few of the skin conditions that may benefit from Kaffir Lime: scars, age marks, & blemishes.

Kaffir Lime plays an essential part in some of the most famous Thai dishes, like Tom Yam (spicy sour soup), Green curry, Paneng curry (red curry with peanuts), Tom Kaa (coconut milk and galangal soup), Tod Man Pla (fried fish cakes), Hor Mok (steamed curry), and many more. It can also be used (in non-Thai dishes) for pastries, soups, salads, stews, desserts and drinks. Combines well with Lemongrass essential oil. Add a couple of drops, diluted in a couple of tablespoons of your cooking oil, to help it disperse. This creates a wondeful dish. For hot dishes, wait until the end of the process, before adding the essential oil. These are called “volatile oils” for a reason: they are relatively fragile, and will dissipate quickly in high heat!

Pest control
Bugs certainly don’t like Kaffir Lime oil. A few drops with Sweet Almond oil applied to the body, will give some protection from biting insects, although the smell can be fairly strong.

You can also combine with equal amounts of any of the essential oils we have supplied. Have fun, experiment: make your own blend up to a total of 25% of oils overall, by choosing those that you favour the scent of. Add 75% of your carrier oil: Sweet Almond, Sunflower, or fractionated Coconut. All of the oils supplied will work as repellents, just some a little better then others.

Cleaning Products
A great alternative to regular kitchen and bathroom cleaning sprays. Kaffir Lime kills germs and leaves everything smelling fresh and clean. To boost the grease-cutting power of your cleaning spray, add citrus oils like either Lemon, Lemongrass, Bergamot, or Sweet Orange. You can use them all, or just one that you have a preference for.

To make 2 cups of cleaning spray, use 1 ¾ cups of water, ¼ cup of white vinegar, 15 drops of Kaffir Lime oil, and add another 2-7 drops total of the remaining essential oils that you are going to use.

If using as a floor cleaner, cut down the amount of oils to just a few drops of each, as some floors can become slippery because of too much oil applied.
